João Lourenço marks 25th of April with message of union between Angola and Portugal

The President of the Republic marked this Saturday the commemoration of the 25th of April, an event that marked the history of the two peoples, praising the joint efforts between Angola and Portugal to face the “critical moment” due to the covid-19.


In a message addressed to his counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, congratulating the Portuguese people for the celebration of the 46th anniversary of this event, João Lourenço highlights the importance of the event “which resulted from the efforts and the glorious struggle of Angolans and Portuguese” and triggered changes which led to democracy, in Portugal, and to the independence of Angola and other Portuguese-speaking African countries.

“In this critical moment that the world is going through, for reasons that are due to Covid-19, I believe that the combination of efforts between Angola and Portugal, in a context of observance of the norms universally established by the specialized bodies, will help us, based on in the union of all nations, to successfully face the current adversities ”, underlines the Angolan head of state.

João Lourenço also makes reference to the “intense” relations of friendship, cooperation and solidarity between the two countries over the past four decades.

"I am convinced that the high level of reciprocal understanding of the reality of each of our countries, will help us to continue putting in motion in the present and in the future, practical and permanent initiatives that will lead to the continuous strengthening of our bilateral relations", says the message.
