More than 250 Cuban doctors arrived in Angola and brought 30 tons of medicines

As of this week, Angola has a group of 264 Cuban doctors who arrived in the country to reinforce and train medical teams from 164 municipalities in actions to combat covid-19.

The Cuban medical contingent that arrived in Luanda on the 10th is composed of several specialists, namely intensivists, anesthesiologists, infectious diseases, public health doctors, among others.

The doctors, who have been on quarantine since Friday for less than fourteen days, were received at the international airport 4 de Fevereiro by members of the Intersectorial Commission for the Control of Pandemic in Angola and the Cuban embassy.

According to the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, Cuban doctors bring to the country "vast experience" in the field of combating major endemic diseases and with the same "we will guarantee differentiated medical care in the 164 municipalities in the country".

A quarantine of just under 14 days will be carried out by Cuban doctors, because, underlined the minister, although they have already completed quarantine in their country, they will carry out new tests in Angola.

"And a quarantine below 14 days to have the possibility to assess their evolution, in a period of at least five days, and then do the testing," said Sílvia Lutucuta, speaking to reporters.

At least 30 tons of drugs have also arrived from Cuba, namely interferon, chloroquine and zithromycin, which "are by this time the most used drugs in the treatment of patients with covid-19".

Sílvia Lutucuta recalled that for the time being the positive cases of covid-19 in Angola are imported, referring that analyzes of hotel workers, transformed into quarantine centers, and of people who had contact with those who tested positive are ongoing.

"We hope that we will continue like this, it is our wish, but it is all very unpredictable and we have to follow the form of contagion that is very fast and we continue to appeal to social isolation, people must take care of individual and collective protection measures", he urged.
