Suspension of interprovincial fence in the country extended for 24 hours

The temporary lifting of the interprovincial health fence imposed by the covid-19 in the country has been extended by 24 hours, with citizens moving between provinces being obliged to carry out home quarantine, according to a presidential decree signed this Sunday.

:

Initially it was only planned to suspend the health fence on 11 and 12 April, after the state of emergency was extended for a further 15 days (from 11 to 25 April), so that citizens in other provinces could return to their homes.

According to the decree signed by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, interprovincial movement of people and goods will now be allowed until 11.59pm on 13 April 2020.

The same decree also stipulates that all citizens who move from one province to another during this period will be subject to compulsory home quarantine, a rule which, if disregarded, will give rise to compulsory institutional quarantine.

The decree states that the "competent authorities" are responsible for creating the necessary conditions for "the registration, control and monitoring of compulsory home quarantine resulting from the 24 hour extension of the temporary removal of the provincial health fence".

Citizens who have recently undergone institutional quarantine are not required to undergo home quarantine.

The country registers 19 positive cases of infection with the new coronavirus causing covid-19, two of which resulted in death, and four patients have already recovered.

All the records relate to imported cases, mostly from Portugal.

The new coronavirus, responsible for the covid-19 pandemic, has already caused more than 109,000 deaths and infected almost 1.8 million people in 193 countries and territories.

Of the cases of infection, almost 360,000 are considered cured.

After the outbreak in China in December, it spread around the world, leading the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a pandemic situation.

The United States is the country with the highest number of deaths, accounting for 20,608 as of this Sunday, and the one with the most infected, with over 530,000 confirmed cases.
