"The Ministry of Tourism, within the scope of its attributions and, with a view to creating and developing policies that boost the growth of the sector, created the commission responsible for carrying out the study, inventory and registration of the Island of Luanda, with the objective of establishing it as an Area of Interest and Tourist Potential", informed the ministry, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
The Minister of Tourism will chair this committee, which will also be made up of "members representing different ministerial departments, the provincial government of Luanda, the municipal administration of Ingombota, traditional authorities, the commission of residents of the Island of Luanda, representatives of Tourism Sector Associations at the level of the Island of Luanda/municipality of Ingombota".
According to the ministry, this measure will allow, among other aspects, the creation of an inventory of tourist resources in the aforementioned area, "including natural and cultural heritage, tourist enterprises and gastronomic and similar establishments".
"The establishment of Luanda Island as an Area of Tourist Interest and Potential will allow for exponential growth in the region's tourism offering and the development of the local community, through the holding of sporting, cultural and social events", reads the note, which adds that "consequently, an increase in the number of tourists and visitors who will be able to enjoy an unparalleled immersive cultural experience is also expected".
This coastal strip, which is approximately seven kilometers long, offers swimming options on its crystal-clear beaches, as well as food, accommodation, and other cultural and tourist attractions.
