According to Luís Fernando, spokesperson for the President of the Republic, João Lourenço will travel to Namibia this Thursday afternoon.

On Friday, the head of state "will be among the high-level guests who will attend the inauguration ceremony of the new President of the Republic of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah".

Thus, Luís Fernando reinforces that the ceremony, which will take place at Independence Stadium, will be on Friday and "will consist of the oath before the head of the Supreme Court, then the outgoing president, Nangolo Mbumba, will hand over the country's flag to the new leader as a symbol of power".

Furthermore, the protocol also includes a speech session, where the outgoing President will speak and then the new President will speak.

Quoted in a video released by CIPRA and to which VerAngola had access, Luís Fernando says that Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who "begins her duties as head of the Namibian State, won the presidential elections on December 3rd as a SWAPO candidate, thus becoming the fifth person to hold the presidential office in the neighboring country and the first woman."

João Lourenço returns to the country on Friday, at the end of this "protocol journey".

Nandi-Ndaitwah won the election with more than half of the vote (57 percent), succeeding Mbumba, who took over the reins of Namibia after Hage Geingob died in February last year.
