The information was given by the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, during the official opening of the start of classes for nursing specialization courses, which took place this Monday at the Reverendo Guilherme Pereira Inglês General Hospital, in the province of Bengo.
According to the head of the Health department, quoted in a statement from the provincial government of Bengo to which VerAngola had access, "in the first phase, around 4000 professionals will be trained in the specialties considered most lacking, namely nursing and community health, maternal and neonatal, childcare, anesthesiology and resuscitation, among others".
On the occasion, Silvia Lutucuta announced that this project has funding from the World Bank, and is expected to train around 38 thousand health professionals over the next four years.
"The project is being financed by the World Bank and over the next four years, 38,000 health professionals will be trained, including 3000 doctors, 9000 nurses, 9000 nursing technicians, 9000 diagnostic technicians and therapists, 4000 general regime professionals, and 4000 hospital support professionals."
According to the minister, the country has invested significantly in infrastructure and human resources in the health sector, which has led to considerable improvements in the provision of health services at all levels, with an emphasis on primary care and highly complex interventions, writes Angop.
The minister also recalled the holding of three public competitions in recent years that made it possible to hire more than 46,000 new professionals, both in special careers and in the general regime, equivalent to an increase of around 43 percent in the workforce, thus approaching the goal of achieving universal health coverage based on principles of effectiveness and equity.
For the period 2023-2028, the sector's attention is focused on training professionals in all levels and areas, with an emphasis on the continuous progress of professional careers in this area, writes Angop.
"The first postgraduate course in the area of nursing in the public sector is being promoted by the MINSA Project Implementation Unit, in the training centers of Luanda, Bengo, Icolo and Bengo, Bié, Lunda Sul, Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte, Cabinda, Huíla and Benguela", the note also reads.
Regarding the course, the governor of Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba, considered that this will raise the "bar of competence of professionals".
"With this course, we will undoubtedly raise the bar for the competence of professionals at the Ministry of Health. The challenge has been launched and we hope that the trainees will make the most of the training", she highlighted.
Monday's ceremony marked the beginning of the training of around 4000 professionals in 10 nursing specialization courses. According to Angop, the training will take place in 12 centers over a period of two years.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice-Governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, José Francisco Bartolomeu Pedro, the Director General of H.P.I, Giovanni Malega, national directors of the Ministry of Health, as well as hospital directors, a representative of the World Bank, among other guests.
