The price per liter of diesel was updated on Monday to 300 kwanzas, an increase of 50 percent, with the current value being identical to that of gasoline.
ANTT highlights, in a statement, that the impacts of the adjustment in the price of diesel were discussed in Luanda, with representatives of 11 associations and taxi cooperatives who presented concerns about the operational impacts of the increase, including the feasibility of a possible review of transport fares.
"After a joint assessment, it was concluded that there will be no immediate change in current tariffs, since the current cost structure already includes the variation in fuel prices, both for diesel and gasoline vehicles," said ANTT.
Private taxis, popularly known as "candongueiros" or "blue and white", are the most widely used means of public transport in Luanda and in the main national cities, transporting thousands of passengers on their daily journeys.
"A call was made for cooperation between operators so that the stability of services is maintained, ensuring that the population continues to have access to affordable and quality transport," the statement said.
The increase is the result of a political measure to gradually transition the prices of petroleum derivatives to levels closer to market values, providing for a flexible adjustment system based on import and export parity.
ANTT and the Provincial Office of Transport, Traffic and Mobility of Luanda emphasize their commitment to "closely monitor the evolution of the sector", ensuring that any need for adjustment is discussed "in a transparent and responsible manner".
