The IRDP, in a statement released this Sunday and to which VerAngola had access, clarifies that this measure is part of the "gradual adjustment of the retail prices of petroleum products to market levels".
In this sense, the institute, "as a regulatory body with the power to disclose the prices to be charged", states that the "public sale price of diesel (PVP) will be 300 kwanzas/liter, starting at 1:00 am on March 24, 2025".
"The retail prices of other products, under a fixed price regime, namely gasoline, illuminating oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), remain unchanged", also informs the IRDP.
It is worth remembering that, in April last year, the government had already made adjustments to diesel prices, with a liter rising to 200 kwanzas.
Gasoline prices have also changed, rising from 160 kwanzas to 300 kwanzas in June 2023.
Fuel in the country is subsidised by the State, which has taken the political decision to gradually withdraw this subsidy, following the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has been happening since 2023.
When the fuel subsidy reform, repeatedly advocated by the IMF, was launched, Angola, which is struggling with fuel smuggling due to low prices, was the fourth country in the world where it was cheapest to fill up a tank of fuel.
