According to the Press Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, the Head of State will participate in the meeting – which takes place on Saturday – as acting president of the community.
Hakainde Hichilema, head of state of Zambia, will preside over the meeting as acting president of the SADC Organ for Cooperation in the Areas of Politics, Defense and Security.
The so-called 'Organ Troika' (SADC institution responsible for promoting peace and security in the region) will be represented at the summit, as well as the 'SADC Troika', as well as representatives from the DRC and Mozambique and troop contributors to the SADC missions in these two member states (SAMIDRC and SAMIM).
The SADC 'Organ Troika' is made up of Zambia, the acting president of the body, Tanzania, as the next president, and Namibia, the outgoing president.
The 'SADC Troika' is made up of Angola, as acting president of SADC, Zimbabwe, as the next president and DRC as the outgoing president.
On the other hand, the states that contribute troops to SAMIDRC are Malawi, South Africa and Tanzania, which work in collaboration with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The extraordinary Lusaka summit was convened with the aim of addressing the security situation in the Southern African region, with emphasis on the latest developments in eastern DRC and northern Mozambique, says Angop. It will evaluate the progress made by SAMIDRC and SAMIM, deployed to support the governments of both countries in the re-establishment of peace, security and stability.
The Lusaka summit was preceded by extraordinary meetings of the Inter-State Defense and Security Subcommittee (ISDSC) of Senior Officials and the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (CMO).
