Téte António summarized to the press the meeting between Nangolo Mbumba and João Lourenço, which took place this Monday, highlighting the symbolism of having chosen Angola for his first visit abroad.

"He insisted that his first visit be to the Republic of Angola. For historical reasons and the relations we have with this country – we don't want to provoke jealousy – but it is our closest neighbor", he said.

The visit of Nangolo Mbumba, who took office following the death, on February 4th of this year, of President Hage Geingob, is part of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, it was a courtesy visit to the Angolan President, but it also served to discuss matters of common interest between Namibia and Angola.

According to Téte António, issues related to deepening cooperation, which have already been dealt with in Luanda, at various levels, are reserved for the Binational Commission, led by the two Presidents.

"It is at the level of heads of state that this commission meets, which deals with all issues of cooperation, regional and international issues", he highlighted.

The guidance received, continued Téte António, is that the heads of diplomacy of the two countries work to define a date for this rotating meeting of the Binational Commission, with the Republic of Angola taking its turn.

Téte António said that cooperation with the neighboring country of Angola is one of "the best cooperations", a trend that they would like to see prevail.

"We are very grateful to President Nangolo Mbumba, who reiterated the fact that, whoever is in charge of Namibia, the historical nature of this relationship and its symbolism will always remain", he declared.

The Namibian President will visit some manufacturing units in the Angolan capital, this Monday and Tuesday.

The governor of the National Bank of Angola, Manuel Tiago Dias, will receive on Tuesday his counterpart from the Bank of Namibia (BoN), Johannes Gawaxab, following the operationalization of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two central banks in February 2023.
