Odebrecht wins 1168 million dollars contract to build rail section between Luena and Saurimo

Odebrecht and Bento Pedroso Construções, which is part of the Brazilian group, won a US$1.168 million contract to build the Luena-Saurimo section of the Benguela Railway, according to a presidential decree.

:

In the diploma consulted by Lusa, the President authorizes the expenditure of US$1,168 million and formalizes the simplified contract (by direct agreement) by material criteria for the design and construction of the 260 kilometer section.

The presidential order justifies the investment with the need to improve rail transport, the volume of goods and the number of passengers transported, underlining the importance of this railway axis in the connection between the coast and the interior of Angola, starting from Benguela to Moxico, allowing the transport of goods from the Port of Lobito to the Lundas Region.

The aim is to provide that area with a safe, reliable and competitive means of transport that boosts activities such as mining, “highly dependent on means of transport to meet logistical needs, as well as boost the Planagrão project, whose objective is to boost industries and its derivatives focusing on the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Moxico and Cuando Cubango”.

The Minister of Transport will be responsible for approving the parts of the procedure and signing the contract, while the Minister of Finance will be responsible for providing financial resources.
