LBA and Angoalissar participate in an international campaign that brought food to over 15,000 families

The association Luz Banco Alimentar (LBA) and Angoalissar participated in an international campaign that brought food to more than 15 thousand families. LBA – which was again selected by the Food Banking Regional Network (FBRN), a partner organization of the ‘1 Billion Meals’ campaign – distributed 36 tonnes of food across the country, with the packaging and distribution of the food being carried out by Angoalissar.

"Luz Banco Alimentar, a non-governmental organization that has been working to combat hunger and food insecurity since 2016, distributed thirty-six tons of food from north to south of the country", reads a statement sent to VerAngola, which adds that " the organization was again chosen by the Food Banking Regional Network, a partner organization of the '1 Billion Meals' campaign, a Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MBRGI) initiative".

According to the note, the packaging and distribution of food was carried out by Angoalissar, which contacted "solidarity institutions that it regularly supports in Luanda, as well as in Benguela province, where it delivered the basic food baskets".

In addition, it also had the support of provincial governments to identify families at risk "in the municipalities of Uíge, and even Namibe and Lubango, where the cyclical drought that affects the regions has had a great impact on the food security of their populations".

Quoted in the note, Hiba Nesr, co-founder of LBA, thanked FBRN partners and also highlighted the support of government authorities. "We vehemently thank our FBRN partners who trusted us, once again, to carry out this mission. The support of government authorities was equally essential. I also take this opportunity to address my wishes of extreme appreciation to all Angoalissar volunteers, who so kindly gave up their time to help us pack and distribute the food", she said.

"It is estimated that, in total, more than 60,000 meals can be prepared with these donations, and that this action inspires more institutions to support us in the fight against hunger and food insecurity," she added.

According to the statement, the FBRN selected LBA to distribute the food kits to the population, for the second consecutive year. "The organization has been working tirelessly to combat food insecurity and has the support of Angoalissar, the main sponsor and also holder of the 'know-how' necessary for an efficient mega-operation of packaging and distribution", reads the statement.
