Constitutional Court noted congresses of all parties

The Constitutional Court (TC) has already noted the congresses of political parties held last year (MPLA, UNITA, BD and FNLA), a source from that entity told Lusa.

:

The annotation is an administrative act through which the bodies of the management and the statutes of the parties are registered, recognizing the decisions taken in the congresses.

The Democratic Bloc (BD), which elected a new president, Filomeno Vieira Lopes, held its congress in early July and the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), which also chose a new leader, Nimi Ya Nsimbi, in September , while the ruling Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) re-elected João Lourenço in December.

The most complex situation was that of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), which repeated its XIII Congress also in December, after having seen the conclave held in November 2019, in which Adalberto da Junior Coast.

The TC gave the right to a group of alleged militants from the "Galo Negro" party who asked for the president's removal due to alleged irregularities, namely the fact that he ran without renouncing Portuguese nationality, annulling the congress and the direction chosen in 2019, including Adalberto da Costa Júnior, again elected in December 2021.

The notes should be published "soon" in the Diário da República, according to the source contacted by Lusa.

The annotation dispatch relating to the XIII UNITA Congress, between 2 and 4 December 2021, records the elected board, chaired by Adalberto da Costa Júnior, and also notes the changes made to the party's statutes, taking into account the deliberations emanating from the congress. .

A new request to challenge the congress is still pending, filed by seven militants from the "Galo Negro" party, who filed a precautionary measure with the TC, alleging that the appointment of the conclave was made in a climate of "intimidation", which UNITA contested.

Last week, an alleged draft judgment circulated on social media, in which the TC judges gave reason to the applicants' request, declaring the XIII Ordinary Congress of December 2021 without effect, a document that the court said was false.
