Manuel Nunes Júnior: Angola is “taking on a serious fight against corruption”

Manuel Nunes Júnior, Minister of State for Economic Coordination, informed that Angola is carrying out structural political and economic reforms, and is “undertaking a serious fight against corruption”.

The official – who was speaking this Wednesday in Brussels, Belgium, where he had a meeting with the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Labour, Pierre-Yves Dermagne – said that the country is "making political reforms and economic structures", strengthening the democratic and lawful state.

Cited in a statement made available on the website of the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the minister indicated that at the political level, the country is "taking a serious fight against corruption, so that it is clear that no one is above the law and all citizens must respect the law".

At the economic level, the minister said that they want "an efficient market economy, marked by the diversification of the economy".

The note also states that the meeting served to address "economic issues with mutual advantages and seeking to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) from Belgian investors".

Manuel Nunes Júnior says he hopes that the European Union-Angola business forum, which will take place this Thursday, will be the "starting point" for the "entry in force" of European companies in Angola's development process: "We hope that the European Union – Angola business forum can be the starting point for the strong entry of European companies in the process of economic diversification and development of our country".

In turn, Piere-Yve Dermagne left the guarantee that the Belgian government "welcomes the reforms that are taking place in Angola" and assured "its support for companies that are interested in the Angolan market, in the field of port infrastructure and railways, energy and water, as well as diamond processing".

At the meeting, Manuel Nunes Júnior was accompanied by the Ministers of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, of Agriculture and Fisheries, Francisco Assis, of Industry and Commerce, Victor Fernandes, of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, by the Secretary of State for Cooperation, Domingos Vieira Lopes and by the Angolan ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and Luxembourg, Mário Constantino.

The national delegation that is in Brussels to participate in the forum is led by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination.
