Sílvia Lutucuta opens new hospital in Cuito

The new municipal hospital in Cuito-Cunje, in Bié province, was inaugurated this Tuesday by the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta. After the opening, the new hospital unit received its first patients.

Located in the commune of Cunje, municipality of Cuito, the hospital – budgeted at around 800 million kwanzas and which was built under the Integrated Plan for Intervention of Municipalities (PIIM) – has a capacity of 100 beds.

Cited in a note from the Ministry of Health, the head of the Health portfolio guaranteed that the infrastructure "presents all the requirements of a first-level health unit, which will ensure the reference of health centers and posts that composes the sanitary network of the municipality".

Sílvia Lutucuta also made it known that the hospital is equipped with "medical resources concentrated in a single health unit", constituting "a gain for the National Health Service, with emphasis on the services of Gynecology-Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Surgery, Intensive Care, Operating Room, Imaging, Internal Medicine, Clinical Laboratory, Pharmacy and Hemotherapy".

According to the minister, this new hospital will make it possible to take care of cases that previously had to be transported to the provincial hospital "with obstetric complications, some trauma caused by road accidents" as well as patients with HIV, diabetes, hypertension, among other diseases that previously the municipality was not able to treat and diagnose.

According to the note from the guardianship, the inauguration of this infrastructure is framed in the reinforcement of the National Health System at the municipal level as well as in the "development of primary health care to improve the population's quality of life".
