The event was attended by entities of the provincial government of Namibe, representatives of the provincial office of agriculture and the Institute of Agronomic Research of Angola (IIA), as well as institutional partners of the FRESAN Program.

FRESAN/Camões I.P delivered to EEAN a 75 horsepower tractor, a precision pneumatic seeder, a 600 liter sprayer, an eight-arm chisel/cultivator, a fixed corn thresher, among others. This machinery will reinforce the technical capabilities of the Agricultural Experimental Station of Namibe in the production of seeds suited to local needs and conditions, and in supporting family farmers.

This equipment facilitates the use of basic seeds available in the EEAN of the species massango, massambala, sweet potato and macunde bean (cowpea), as well as their replication for the distribution of seeds and propagules to peasants in southern Angola who practice agriculture. family, says a statement sent to VerAngola.

The Agricultural Experimental Station of Namibe is a local executive service of the Agricultural Research Institute (IIA) that aims to produce knowledge to support the production, multiplication and improvement of seeds adapted to extreme natural conditions.

These seeds are then distributed to producers with the aim of strengthening nutritional security and strengthening the resilience of family farmers in southern Angola.

In this sense, after carrying out the needs assessment, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Camões and the IIA providing for total support to EEAN in the order of 400 thousand euros.

In this first phase, agricultural equipment was delivered to EEAN, in the amount of 100 thousand euros, and it is planned to reinforce EEAN's technical capacities in inventory management, as well as in training in agricultural mechanics, in order to increase the durability and good operation of the delivered machinery.

Present at the event, Maísa Tavares, deputy governor of Namibe for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, said that this initiative will "bring great value to the agriculture sector in our province. that within a short time we can start to see results from the investment that is being made. We also call for the conservation of the equipment delivered and that we accompany the project and take ownership of it to continue and guarantee its sustainability".

Marcos dos Santos, director of EEAN, stressed at the agricultural equipment delivery ceremony that the project "is financed by the European Union, and that EEAN has an important role in the production, multiplication and improvement of seeds adapted to extreme conditions".

He added that "this support from the European Union involves the financing of agricultural machinery in an estimated value of 100 thousand euros for the reinforcement of the technical capacities" of the EEAN. This is so that the station "can fulfill its mission of guaranteeing the generation of new agricultural technologies to improve the results of family farmers, and not only, in southern Angola."

Patrícia Carvalho, general coordinator of FRESAN in Camões, IP, outlined the FRESAN Program: "Co-managed by Camões IP, by Portuguese cooperation, it is being implemented in three provinces in southern Angola: Cunene, Huíla and Namibe. We already have several advances in the field of family agriculture and livestock. She added that "138 ECA - Agricultural Field Schools are already installed in the three provinces, with the cultivation of about 121 hectares of land; and around 7000 farmers have been covered.
