Angola resumes direct links with Portugal, Brazil and South Africa

The country announced the lifting of the suspension of direct flights to Portugal, Brazil and South Africa, which had been interrupted since 16 January, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, during the presentation of the new rules on the situation of public calamity that will take effect from Friday.

In general, the rules applicable during the next 30 days are similar to those of the previous decree on the situation of public calamity, maintaining the sanitary fence of Luanda until 10 April.

The measure aims to ensure that passengers who are stranded can return as well as passengers of a professional nature, said Transport Minister Ricardo Abreu.

"As we know, the suspension was due to the emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 variants and which led to the suspension of the flag carrier (TAAG) and TAP", recalled the government official, indicating that the process will be done gradually, following the epidemiological evolution, nationally and internationally.

"We will start with a weekly frequency for each of these destinations," he said.

In the case of Portugal, TAP will make a weekly frequency from Lisbon, which may evolve, according to the situation, according to the person in charge of Transport.

Ricardo Abreu added that, over this period, complementary measures were introduced, such as post-landing testing, and approximately 18 thousand passengers have already been tested, with a positivity rate of 0.3 percent.

"We are still not rested," said the minister, calling for passengers to comply with the quarantine to allow air transport security and warning that the authorities will be vigilant.
