Covid-19: Africa with 449 more dead in the last 24 hours

Africa has recorded an additional 449 deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, for a total of 109,893 since the start of the pandemic, and the most recent total number of infection cases is 4,114,437, according to official data.

The African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has, without explanation, reviewed the total number of infected people in the organization's 55 member states, which rose 4,158,923 cases on Sunday morning since the start of the crisis. pandemic, after three days without updating the data associated with covid-19 on the continent.

The number of recovered people in the last 24 hours is 13,702, for a total of 3,681,643 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,888,261 infected and 59,095 killed by the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,537,852 cases and 52,111 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,227,258 infected and 34,927 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 461,849 infections and 8430 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 415,492 and that of deaths is 5441. Central Africa has 114,807 cases and 1911 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,598 deaths and 195,418 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8767 deaths and 491,709 cases.

Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8546 deaths and 245,706 cases, Algeria, with 3057 dead and 125,157 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2659 fatalities and 187,365 infections.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 746 deaths and 66,212 cases, followed by Angola (527 deaths and 21,733 cases of infection), Cape Verde (159 deaths and 16,491 cases), Equatorial Guinea (101 deaths and 6780 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (55 dead and 3568 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (34 dead and 2142 cases).
