Federation suspends five referees for “strange signs and lack of quality”

The Central Council of Referees of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) decided to suspend five referees for up to two months, for "strange signs and lack of quality" in the games for which they were appointed, asking for rigor and exemption.

According to a statement to which the Lusa agency had access, the FAF referee council decided to suspend the five judges, for "less successful arbitrations" in games of the Angolan football championship and the Angolan Cup.

Three referees are suspended for 45 days and two for 60 days.

In the document signed by the FAF secretary-general, the institution justifies the measure "because there are signs strange to the sports movement in arbitration".

"There being no possibility of proving attitudes that ethically consider themselves unreasonable to the action to which the arbitrators are called to strictly and impartially in the exercise of their functions, in this way the arbitrators are punished for lack of quality", reads.

The FAF Central Arbitrators Council also advises the commissioners to the games to report with "selflessness and responsibility" about the referees' performance in the games.

The football championship, which next weekend will be the 25th round, is led on equal terms by 1º de Agosto, four-time champion, and Petro de Luanda, vice-champion of the last four seasons, both with 51 points.

The Cup semi-finals are also up for grabs.
