Covid-19: Federation says Girabola "not yet justified" suspension

The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) said on Tuesday that "there is still no justification" for the suspension of matches in the national championship and the restriction of crowds due to the Covid-19 pandemic, saying it is attentive to the instructions of the authorities.

In statements made this Tuesday to the Lusa agency, the director of the technical council of the FAF, Geremias Simão, considered "premature" the suspension of competitions like the Girabola without guidance from government authorities in this sense, noting that Angola has not yet recorded any confirmed case.

"So far, as far as we know, no case has been registered in Angola, so it has not been forbidden, as such, to carry out activities, so when it arises and if it does, we will take some measures," said the responsible.

For the leader of the FAF, the institution "should not go ahead with suspending the competitions", organized by itself, because that "would be premature" and there are no "indications or guidelines from the authorities in that direction".

The Angolan football championship, collided by the 1st of August, four-time champion, and Petro de Luanda, runner-up in the last four temperaments, both with 51 points, continues to be played and next weekend enters the 25th round.

In dispute is also the Angolan Cup in football, which on Wednesday, records the first game of the semi-finals.

According to Geremias Simão, the limitation of the public in football stadiums is an issue to be considered, especially in matches like a classic between 1st August and Petro de Luanda.

"There, where the human frame will make itself felt considerably, this restriction may be justified, but until then it is better not to take any initiative yet", he concluded.
