UN allocates 64 million dollars to youth in Angola by 2020

The United Nations will provide Angola with 58 million euros for young people until 2022, announced this Monday the UN resident coordinator in the country, who highlighted the importance of the Government's National Youth Policy.

"It is a very important plan in which United Nations agencies participated actively taking into account that 65 percent of the population is under 65 years old," said Paolo Baladelli, after the public presentation of the National Youth Policy (PNJ), in Luanda.

The plan "crosses" with the cooperation framework that the UN signed with the Government of Angola for the 2020-2022 triennium, which includes a total of US $ 270 million, of which about 64 million will be dedicated to the theme of youth, above all youth access to social issues (education, social protection and health), youth employability and the construction of spaces for participation and citizenship.

The program, which the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ana Paula Neto, considered "an important governance tool" was approved in September 2019 and resulted from a "comprehensive public discussion process that also involved listening to youth".

The National Youth Policy (PNJ) is supported by seven axes: access to basic social services, access to vocational training, employment and entrepreneurship, poverty eradication, participation and representation in public political life, leisure, education and sport, access to information and communication technologies and public security and citizenship.

Paolo Baladelli stressed that the involvement of the United Nations makes it possible to "make a strong contribution" with regard to young people's access to education and health, namely sexual and reproductive health.

The UN official also spoke about the need for "training focused on the real prospects of employability of young people", which is being done in coordination with the Angolan executive, in a transversal way, as well as the "creation of spaces for dialogue and youth exchange "to help strengthen their involvement in citizenship and how they can actively find answers to their needs and desires.
