President dismisses trade minister and appoints successor

According to a statement released, the head of state, “in the use of his constitutional prerogatives”, exonerated this Tuesday “Jofre Van-Dúnem Júnior from the position of Minister of Commerce”.

Another decree, also with the same date, states that João Lourenço appointed Victor Francisco dos Santos Fernandes to this position.

The President of the Republic had already exonerated on Monday the Minister of Education, Ana Paula Elias, and the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, Jesus Faria Maiato.

Ana Paula Tuavanje Elias had been appointed in October 2019 and will be replaced by Luísa Maria Alves Grilo.

Jesus Faria Maiato had been appointed in October 2017, replacing António Rodrigues Afonso Paulo. For the place of Jesus Faria Maiato, the head of state has now chosen Teresa Rodrigues Dias.

The President also dismissed Manuel de Jesus Moreira from the post of Secretary of State for Labor and Social Security, a role that will be assumed by Pedro José Filipe.

The justification for substitutions is just "convenience of service".

In another presidential decree, João Lourenço appointed Maria Cândida Teixeira as ambassador to Cuba.
