Hage Geingob was reappointed as President of the Republic of Namibia, in elections held on 27 November 2019.
At the time, the head of state congratulated the re-election of his counterpart, who he considered to be “the recognition of the Namibian people for the successful efforts undertaken in favor of Namibia's progress and development”.
He also said, in the note released at the time, “to expect the constructive dialogue that has been established between the two governments to continue, with the hope that the friendly and cooperative relations between Angola and Namibia will continually strengthen for the good -being and the prosperity of both peoples and countries ”.
The Government of Namibia keeps the vast border with Angola open, despite registering two positive cases of the new coronavirus, the press reported this Tuesday, citing the Namibian ambassador in Luanda, Patrick Nandango.
According to the Namibian diplomat, quoted by Jornal de Angola, the carrier TAAG is authorized to fly regularly to his country, despite the entry ban imposed on other airlines.
To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, which is currently more active in Europe, Patrick Nandango said that the celebrations of the country's 30th anniversary of independence and the investiture of President-elect Hage Geingob, on March 21, will take place under measures restrictive.
About 30 African countries have already reported positive cases of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Angola, with no record of positive cases of the new coronavirus, maintains the ban on entry of non-resident foreign nationals from China, South Korea, Iran and Italy, having today extended the list to Portugal, Spain and France.
