According to the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, the Ministry of Health is following "with concern" the emergence of the first case of Covid-19 in DRCongo.

"However, we are monitoring the implementation of our contingency plan. The case in DRCongo is imported, there is still no circulation at the community level, which could lead us to increasingly reinforce the measures that are being implemented at the time. along the border, "Franco Mufinda said in statements to Angolan public radio.

Franco Mufinda considered that "there is an urgent need, with other sectors, namely in the security area, to reinforce epidemiological-sanitary surveillance measures along the border.

"We have already interacted with the provincial health offices in the provinces bordering DRCongo [...] to be able to reinforce the surveillance that I have already mentioned", he stressed.

The first confirmed case of coronavirus in DRCongo was diagnosed by a Belgian citizen in the capital, Kinshasa, where he is hospitalized, announced the Congolese Minister of Health, Eteni Longondo.

"He is a Belgian citizen who has been here for a few days and who we are following. The test results were positive."

The two countries share a vast land and river border, extending over 2,500 kilometers, with illegal immigration of Congolese to the national territory a concern for the authorities.

Angola has so far registered three suspected cases of Covid-19, of two Chinese citizens and one Croat, the rest of whom had criteria for quarantine, with the list of entry restrictions being China, Iran, South Korea and Italy.
