Angolas Presidential Palace tracks officials and visitors for Covid-19

The Presidential Palace in Cidade Alta, Luanda, headquarters of the Presidency, is tracking officials and visitors to prevent possible contamination of the coronavirus that causes Covid-19 disease, Lusa noted this Tuesday.

At the entrance, after the security measures have been fulfilled, employees and visitors should use alcohol gel to disinfect their hands and then a health technician carries out the screening with a thermal camera to measure the temperature of each one.

The procedure is similar to what happens in the landing room of the 4 de Fevereiro international airport in Luanda.

Angola, which did not register a positive case of Covid-19, has developed contingency plans and control measures at the main points of entry of the country and has decreed, from 3 March, a ban on the entry of foreign citizens from China, the centre of the epidemic of Covid-19, South Korea, Iran, Italy, Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria, countries with native or registered cases of the coronavirus.

However, last Wednesday the authorities decided to withdraw the ban list from Nigeria, Algeria and Egypt for reporting only one case.

The Covid-19 epidemic, which started in China, can cause respiratory infections such as pneumonia, has already caused more than 4,000 deaths and has infected around 114,000 people.

In Africa, the number of cases of infection has risen to 105 in 11 countries, seven of which in sub-Saharan Africa: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Tunisia and Togo.

Portugal has 41 confirmed cases of infection, according to the Portuguese Health Directorate General.

In recent days, Italy has become the most serious case of an epidemic outside China, with 463 deaths and over 9,100 contaminated by the new coronavirus, which can cause respiratory infections such as pneumonia.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Covid-19 outbreak as an international public health emergency of "very high risk".
