The information was provided, this Tuesday, by the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB). In a statement, to which VerAngola had access, the federation informs that "the coach of the National Senior Men's Basketball Team, Pep Cláros, will not be able to lead the team during the first qualifying window for Afrobasket 2025, which will take place in the city of Hammamet (Tunisia) on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of February".
The sports entity justifies the situation with the fact that Clarós is going through a difficult time due to his father's health. "Pep Clarós is facing a difficult time due to his father's health, so he needs to support his family at this delicate time", reads the note.
Thus, the role of coach during Pep Clarós' absence will be taken over by Aníbal Moreira, who will have the support of his assistant Miguel Lutonda.
"The decision aims to guarantee the continuity and stability of the national team in this decisive period", the note also states.
It should be noted that, in the competition, Angola belongs to group E, made up of Tunisia, Kenya and Guinea. Angola's debut game in the competition is scheduled for February 23rd, against Guinea. The following day, they will meet Kenya and on February 25th they will play against Tunisia.
