According to the general director of the National Institute of Employment and Professional Training (INEFOP), there is a growing activity of private employment agencies in the country using online platforms to manage the demand for and supply of employment.

"But there is a lot of work to be done to consolidate the placement mechanism to our reality", said Manuel Mbangui, highlighting that the 120 agencies operate under license from the institute, to which they periodically report their activity.

Speaking to Lusa, regarding the actions developed by INEFOP in 2023, the person in charge praised the performance of intermediary agencies, which, last year, managed to place more than 80 percent of the candidates who registered.

INEFOP currently controls 78 employment centers in Angola, institutions that, in addition to the job placement and offer component, also work in the process of information and professional guidance for citizens who come there in search of employment.

"Last year, in terms of information and professional guidance, we had more than 194,000 candidates who went through some information or professional guidance process in our centers", he explained.

Manuel Mbangui also highlighted the professional internships promoted by INEFOP, which enable closer ties between employment centers and companies, noting that more than 50 young people are undergoing internships at Petromar, a company in the oil sector.

"Recently, a group of 35 young people also finished their professional internship at Candando (hypermarket), all of them leaving the employment centers, and this way companies are getting to know our services and this approach is healthy", he noted.

The official also said that the institution he heads is completing updates to its job portals, with a view to intensifying this year the campaign for the use of "inefop.gov.ao", a mechanism for inserting job applications, guidance and Professional internships.

He also highlighted the intensification of the human capital training program, linked to the employment area, as a relevant action to be developed in 2024, because currently the recruitment process is increasingly demanding and these professionals "must have knowledge of human resources management, emotional management, carrying out psychotechnical tests", he explained.

The general director of INEFOP stated that, to support the candidate in the interview process, it is necessary to know the legislation, which is why the training of employment technicians will be "intensified".

Data released last week indicates that the unemployment rate in Angola increased by 2.2 points, to 31.9 percent, in the last quarter of 2023, with 80.5 percent of employees working in the informal sector.

Angola has 5.4 million unemployed people, divided between 2.5 million men and 2.9 million women, according to INE data.
