The Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, who heads the Angolan delegation at the G20 summit of heads of diplomacy, at the invitation of Brazil, was received this morning by the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira.

"The Angolan minister expressed support for Brazil's priorities in the group's presidency", reads a note released by Brazilian diplomacy.

The priorities of the Brazilian presidency for the term are the fight against hunger, poverty and inequality, sustainable development and the reform of global governance, namely the United Nations Security Council, something that has been defended by Lula da Silva since taking office as President of Brazil, denouncing the lack of representation and legitimacy of the main international organizations.

Brazil, which assumed the presidency of the G20 on December 1, 2023, is hosting a two-day summit that, starting this Wednesday, will host in the same space the top diplomatic officials from the 20 largest economies in the world, such as the Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and vice-president of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, officials from the African Union, authorities from the countries invited to the Brazilian presidency, such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, João Gomes Cravinho, and representatives of 12 international organizations.

Regarding the reform of global governance, Brazil set the tone on the eve of the summit with ambassador Maurício Lirio considering that there is a deficit in global governance and that it is not capable of resolving current challenges "at the level of Cold War conflict".

"The proliferation of conflicts is something that concerns us very acutely," he said, detailing that the topic of global governance reform will be the focus of diplomatic chiefs' discussions on Thursday.

The executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), Zacarias da Costa, will be present at the invitation of Brazil, as well as Angola, which will be represented by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano.

This Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro is reserved for discussions on the current world situation, including the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.

In addition, with the presence of Sergei Lavrov and Josep Borrell, the topic of Russia's invasion of Ukraine gains a strong dimension at the summit.

Lula da Silva received Antony Blinken this Wednesday at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília, and a meeting with Sergei Lavrov is also scheduled for between this Wednesday and Thursday.
