President is already in Ethiopia to participate in the African Union summit

The President of the Republic is already in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, where he landed this Friday afternoon. João Lourenço's trip to Ethiopia is aimed at his participation, over the weekend, in the 37th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, João Lourenço, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, left the country this Friday morning.

Also during the day of this Friday, ahead of the formal start this Saturday of the high-level meeting, the head of state will work with "counterparts in a meeting dedicated to the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo" (DRC), also informs the Presidency of the Republic.

According to Angop, at the meeting on the DRC – an initiative of the head of state, in his capacity as acting president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), as well as AU mediator to help resolve the disagreement between the DRC and Rwanda – nine heads of state from 10 countries will be present, including Angola, Kenya, DRC, South Africa and Rwanda, while, as guests, representatives of the AU commission will also participate, as well as the Uganda.

The 37th summit of the continental organization, taking place on the 17th and 18th of this month, will be under the motto "Training Africans for the 21st Century: Creating resilient education systems to increase access to inclusive learning, throughout life, quality and relevant in Africa" and one of the topics to be debated will be the situation of the Pan-African Parliament.
