Henrique Gime told Lusa that this is a disease that occurs cyclically in Angola, with losses for the producer, having affected around 560 animals.
According to the person responsible, the directive was that the entire affected unit be destroyed, and the sale of any derivatives was also prohibited.
"And it cannot even leave the unit, which is why we have communicated to the security agencies to monitor this situation, because, if it is sold, it will cause the spread of the virus and could affect other producers", he said.
The official highlighted that, in Angola, this disease appears cyclically, having recently appeared in the provinces of Benguela and Luanda (Quiminha), being controlled through biosecurity and hygiene measures, namely banning people from entering the farm.
"It's a matter of prevention, this disease has no treatment", he stressed.
The plague was detected on the Quavi Lda farm and confirmed by the central veterinary laboratory in Windhoek, capital of Namibia.
As it is a highly pathogenic disease and requires mandatory declaration, the Angolan authorities recommended the elimination of all affected animals from that unit and disinfection of the entire farm, among others.
