More than 40 groups that will paint Nova Marginal de Luanda with Carnival festivities have a “tuned machine”

Carnival revelry will take to the streets next weekend, with more than 40 groups prepared to fill Luanda's Nova Marginal with color and excitement. In this sense, according to the coordinator of the Luanda provincial Carnival Preparatory Commission, vice-governor Manuel Gonçalves, “the machine is in tune” for the parades.

"The machine is in tune", said the person in charge, who was speaking this Tuesday, within the scope of a meeting held between the governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, and entities that are part of the preparation of the Luanda Carnival, namely the defense forces and security, Aprocal and the management of the municipality of Luanda, in order to assess the conditions of the party in the province.

"This is how we are here to take stock with the governor of what constitutes the creation of technical and security conditions," he said, speaking to Public Television of Angola (TPA).

Regarding the days of revelry themselves, Manuel Gonçalves said that the groups begin to parade on Saturday, February 10th, with the children's class. Class B will take to the streets the following day, while the class A parade is scheduled for Monday (February 12).

"We will have the parade on the 10th, 11th and 12th, so the children's class on the 10th, class B on the 11th and class A on the 12th", he indicated.

The official also said that expectations point to a large public presence: "The expected number of public within those who will be within the exhibition area in the stands is close to 3000 seats, but at the level of an entire public we expect above 20,000 to 30,000 people along the entire marginal on Carnival day."

Regarding the issue of security, the commission coordinator said it was "guaranteed through the public order police, traffic police, firefighters and also by a large health team", which will have more than 50 professionals, as well as "more than six or seven ambulances for support".

"We will also have a whole ELISAL team here who will clean the space during and after the parade", he added, quoted by TPA.

According to the TPA, there are 43 groups that will take the carnival festivities to the marginal.

The 'revelers' aim is to surpass the places obtained in the previous edition or maintain the title of winner. According to Angop, this is the case of the União Kiela group, which has strong expectations for this year's edition of the Luanda Carnival and, according to Maravilha Dias dos Santos, president and commander of the group, the aim is to reach first place.

The group União Recreativo do Kilamba intends to maintain the title of winner, achieved in the previous edition. "As we are the winners of the last edition, the responsibility is greater, but I believe that we are getting involved so that we can defend our title", said Poli Rocha, head of the group, speaking to Angop.

The ambition of the União Mundo da Ilha group is similar to other groups, with its president, António Custódio, the association is ready to "attack" the marginal and show that they deserve the title.
