Meeting at the 5th ordinary meeting, the standing committee of the Political Commission of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) concluded that "the regime still lacks the political will to carry out municipal elections in Angola", with the country continuing to be the the only one that, in the southern African region, "has not institutionalized local power, 47 years after independence, with very serious implications for local development and the fight against asymmetries".

At the meeting, the participants also analyzed the country's economic and social situation, having expressed their concern "in the face of the degradation of the social and economic conditions of the Angolan population, with the unbearable cost of living for most families".

"The standing committee of the Political Commission considered that the economic measures adopted by the current regime, in addition to being palliative and ephemeral, are not consistent because they are based on unsustainable factors such as imports", says the statement.

For the second largest political party in Angola, "only a serious bet and a decisive investment in agriculture and livestock can guarantee the production of food to support Angolan families".

With regard to the internal life of the party, the permanent committee of the Political Commission congratulated the leader of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, "for the wise, courageous and far-sighted way in which he has led the party in the face of the adversities imposed by the regime".

"In particular, it praises its strategic vision that culminated with the creation of the United Patriotic Front, as the right platform for the realization of alternation in Angola", emphasizes the document.

The report on the activities of the Executive Secretariat of the Permanent Committee of the Political Commission, carried out in the last quarter and the program for the next three months of this year was unanimously approved.

On the international situation, the standing committee of the Political Commission of UNITA expressed its solidarity with the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria and the disasters in Mozambique and Brazil.

The war between Ukraine and Russia was also discussed at the meeting, with the Standing Committee of the Political Commission calling on the United Nations to promote a peace plan that puts an end to this conflict that causes thousands of deaths and millions of displaced people and refugees.
