Elections for UNITA's youth arm with six candidates. Savimbi's daughter is out

Six militants formalized candidacies for the leadership of JURA, the youth arm of the UNITA party, and the daughter of the founding leader of the party, Ginga Savimbi, did not formalize it because she expressed her intention “out of time”, said a party source.

Nelito Ekuikui, Domingos Epalanga, Sebastião Salakiaku, Roberto Gamba, Hilário Marques and João Lukombo are the six pre-candidates for the post of secretary general of the Youth United Revolutionary of Angola (JURA).

According to the chairman of the mandates commission of the V Ordinary Congress of the youth organization of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Adelino Ricardo, the phase of receiving complaints and checking for shortcomings is currently underway.

Regarding Ginga Savimbi, daughter of the founding leader of UNITA Jonas Savimbi, the official told Lusa that she contacted the mandates commission one day after the application submission phase had ended.

"We ask for understanding, there is no malice, the lady contacted us a day later. The lady's intention was extemporaneous and she is politically mature and realized that in fact they were closed and conformed", she explained.

With the candidacies formally presented, the commission says it has notified all pre-candidates to fill insufficiencies, at a time when they are also in the period for receiving complaints that close on Saturday.

"There are remediable shortcomings and there are others that cannot be remedied, however we analyze all the processes, we notify all pre-candidates and they are entitled to complain about one or another point and we are also analyzing the complaints", she said.

The lack of a signature or a copy of the Identity Card "are remediable shortcomings", but, noted Adelino Ricardo, the time of militancy, which in the light of our statutes is 10 consecutive years, if they do not have "it is an insufficiency that cannot be remedied ".

After the candidacies have been validated, the electoral campaign continues until the end of the first half of next March.

The V Ordinary Congress for the renewal of mandates in the governing bodies of the organization takes place from March 15th to 17th.

Agostinho Kamuango, outgoing general secretary, did not run for office again.
