Changes made to the Customs Tariff disclosed by AGT

The General Tax Administration (AGT) announced the changes made to the Customs Tariff, in a forum promoted by the 4th Region of the AGT, which took place this Wednesday, in Lobito, Benguela province. Among the changes is the exemption of widely consumed products, such as basic goods, to enable them to reach consumers at a lower cost,

Ivandro Nhime, head of the litigation section, speaking to Angop, also referred that the "import of products from the countryside" had worsened. "The State has increased the importation of products from the countryside to allow greater revenue collection and protect the national industry. These now pay 50 percent, compared to the 20 that the Tariff referred to", he said, adding that, even in this parameter, they are equally included fresh flowers, confectionery and pastry, which were added between 10 and 20 percent.

With regard to mitigation, refers to Angop, this was carried out to induce the importation of goods, aiming to provide more employment, as well as more wealth for families and, naturally, more revenue for the State.

Thus, tobacco and pork are included in this list, which both dropped by five percent. Tobacco began to pay a rate of 55 percent against the previous 60 percent, while meat increased from 10 percent to five percent.

Jerónimo Cambalangange, national director of customs services, also quoted by Angop, said that this information also serves to suppress the adversities that taxpayers have about paying taxes.

"In the tax area, we have already achieved greater disclosure and today we already see the increase in tax collection and we want to achieve the same in the customs area", added the official.

He also showed that there is a greater decrease in the volume of imports and exports due to the various projects that the Government is conceiving, writes Angop.

Jerónimo Cambalangange also explained that "the aim is to reduce the burden that the taxpayer has on the AGT and the lack of information or information in a timely manner, given the various legislative changes in terms of taxes".

Cited by Angop, the official also made it known that the Customs Tariff version 2022, which saw the green light this year, has already complied with the recommendation of the World Customs Organization, to avoid the application of rates above 55 percent.

In addition, the entity's modernization was also mentioned. Gestão Sahemba, a customs service audit technician, referred that the Customs Expansion and Modernization Program gave rise to a new dynamic in the customs regions, adding that, alongside the use of information and communication technologies, the workforce was trained, with taxpayers to find themselves better served, writes Angop.

Also quoted by Angop, he said that in the past customs clearance was carried out manually, contributing to the slowness of processes. "Currently, even in the border areas, the customs clearance of goods is already being felt more quickly, there is not much talk about oil revenues and the remaining products already weigh in on revenue collection", he added.
