Government launches public tender for the construction of an airport in Cabinda

The Government launched a public tender for the construction of the New International Airport of Cabinda (NAIC), with a budgeted amount of 250 million dollars, arguing that the current infrastructure "operates at the limit of its capacity".

In the text published in the Diário da República, it is stated that "the current airport in the province of Cabinda, located in the southern part of the city and in view of the demands of traffic and commerce, operates at the limit of its capacity, negatively affecting connections and transactions commercial establishments, as well as people and goods, being located in a dense urban area that prevents mobility".

Presidential order N.º 38/22, of 21 February, also points out that there is "a need to ensure that a faster public procurement procedure is carried out for the design, construction, supply, installation of equipment and equipping" of the new airport. .

The expenditure of US$250.022 million is authorized under the Simplified Contracting Procedure, based on material criteria, for the award of the contract, according to Angola's official gazette.

The launch and execution of the work is delegated to the Minister of Transport, who will also be responsible for supervising the contract for the provision of inspection services for the work and the contract for the provision of technical consultancy services, preparation and management of the new airport project.

In these two cases, which appear in presidential decree No. 40/22, of 21 February, it is specified that "the Ministry of Transport must ensure, with its own funds, the financial resources necessary for the implementation" of these two contracts.
