The new airport will be built between Malembo and Dingue, however, the official clarified that feasibility studies are underway to find the best place to install the airport, clarifying that teams of specialists from the Ministry of Transport have been analyzing places to start with the works.
Speaking on the provincial government's radio program "Tudo Claro" and quoted by Angop, Marco Nhunga explained that the selection of a new site to build the future airport is related to the high costs of eviction of citizens who live next to the airport, budgeted at about 150 million dollars.
The governor also indicated that while the feasibility studies are underway, the Maria Mambo Café Airport – known as Cabinda Airport – is undergoing interventions aimed at improving the infrastructure and making it more secure.
Maria Mambo Café Airport has a runway that is 2600 meters long and 30 meters wide. Its terminal covers an area of 19 thousand square meters, with the capacity to accommodate up to 900 passengers during peak hours.
