In a note to the media, the CFL says that the accident occurred around 1:30 pm this Wednesday, at kilometer 230, ten kilometers from the city of Ndalatando, capital of the province of Cuanza Norte.

The accident resulted in the total tipping of eight of the 14 tank wagons, which transported 818 tons of diesel to the province of Malanje.

The derailment of the train, which departed at three in the morning from the Muceques station in Luanda, resulted in the spillage of at least two cistern wagons.

"At this moment, the technical teams are on their way to the site to start the rerailing work, removal of the damaged material and repair of the railway line", says the note.

The causes of the accident are not yet known, and a commission of inquiry is on its way to the scene to investigate the reasons for them, thus temporarily suspending the circulation of all trains to Ndalatando and Malanje, until the technical conditions for the its reopening.

The CFL, with a length of 479 kilometers, connects the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Norte and Malanje.
