TCUL loses 14.5 million kwanzas with 21 buses vandalized in less than 40 days

Vandalization of buses has caused huge losses for the public company Transportes Colectivos Urbanos de Luanda (TCUL). With a total of 21 vehicles vandalized in less than 40 days, the company recorded financial losses in excess of 14.5 million kwanzas, as a result of the vandalization and consequent stoppage of buses.

According to a note from the company, to which Angop had access, TCUL itself confirms that recently two of its buses, one of which articulated, were stoned on the road to Catete (Grafanil-Bar).

This event forced the stoppage of buses, clarifying the company that the articulated bus alone failed to transport around 1300 passengers in the period from 5:00 am to 12:30 pm and 2,600 in the shift from 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The other vehicle stopped serving 2420 passengers a day.

The stoppage of these two buses causes considerable damage to the company, in addition to reducing transport capacity and causing a significant increase in waiting time at stops.

TPA states that this year alone, more than two dozen TCUL buses were vandalized by unknown individuals.

Daily, more than 200 public buses circulate in Luanda and thousands of citizens are transported to various points in the capital.

The National Police confirms that it is attentive to the situation and calls for the public to denounce it, so that the culprits can be brought to justice and the public means preserved.
