Government and DP World sign memorandum to develop projects in the transport sector

The Government and the multinational DP World FZE signed this Tuesday, in Luanda, a memorandum of intent that provides for cooperation in the subsectors of ports and terminals, special economic zones, logistics parks and facilitation of cross-border trade.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, the signing of the document was witnessed by the holder of the portfolio, Ricardo d'Abreu, and by Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, president and executive director of DP World, from the United Arab Emirates.

The projects covered by this memorandum of intent cover cooperation in the areas of the National Network of Logistics Platforms – Arccla, airport city – Gonail, Barra do Dande project – EP Luanda and the port of Caio – EP Cabinda.

The cooperation between the parties also provides for the financing of maritime trade and services, logistical support in other sectors of activities, and official working meetings in this regard must begin immediately.

"The document also covers the Cabinda free zone (specific, proprietary and legal jurisdiction, financial and exchange, tax and customs regimes) attached to the Caio deep water terminal, as well as the opportunity to develop logistics platforms with RDCongo, mainly, Luvo and Luau, mining logistics support - development of a network of logistical support bases to support the development and expansion of the mining sector in Angola," the statement said.

With this memorandum, the Ministry of Transport intends to continue the development of maritime services in Angolan ports, oil logistics bases - further development of infrastructure and logistical bases to support oil fields in Angola, as well as the creation of the new airport city - further development of the real estate project and logistical support infrastructure for the new Luanda airport.

DP World has already managed the operations of the multipurpose terminal at the port of Luanda since March 1, 2021, the date on which it won the tender for its operation and modernization, for a period of 20 years.

In the act of signing the document, the Minister of Transport, quoted in the statement, said that "DP World is a strategic partner for the transport and logistics sector in the country", hoping that with this partnership the dynamism of industrial development will be promoted. of your responsibility.

In turn, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, also quoted in the note, said that "in the multipurpose terminal there are still several opportunities for improvement and creation of logistics and integrated trade infrastructures, which will bring significant economic benefits to the country".

Ahmed Bin Sulayem was received by President João Lourenço, and in statements to the press, at the end of the meeting, he said that he presented to the head of state the advances made by the company in the 11 months in national territory.

"Specifically we are talking about the studies that are being carried out on the possibility of creating free zones at the country level and also the logistical development to make Angola more competitive in the cargo and logistics sector", said the official.

According to the chairman of the DP World group, the idea is to facilitate the movement of products that enter and leave Angola through border areas.
