Extended driving license validity period for all drivers

In a measure implemented through the 'Simplifica' project, the Government announced the extension of the validity period of the driving license from five to 15 years - for citizens aged between 18 and 64 - and by five years for citizens over 65 years.

:

The measure was approved within the scope of the State Reform, eliminating discontinued documents in the act of issuing, renewing or requesting the 2nd copy of the driving permit, including the criminal record certificate, military declaration and the police declaration of loss of document.

These new guidelines, applied within the scope of the 'Simplifica' project, entailed the amendment of articles 95 and 96 of the Regulation on Driving Teaching and Legal Ability to Drive. The measures are already included in a Presidential Decree published in the Diário da República.

According to the document, which Angop had access to, for the purpose of issuing a driving license, the requirement for a 'STAC account', the marriage certificate and a copy of the current driving license (in cases of renewal) was also excluded.

To request a duplicate of the letter, the citizen must present only an identification document such as the Identity Card, passport or resident alien letter.

With regard to the revalidation of the driving license, this will be carried out through the delivery by its holders, in the road and transit services, of proof of the certificate of physical fitness and an identification document.
