Admission of new teachers in Luanda conditioned by the more than 1500 who received salaries without working

The Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, informed that the admission of new teachers in Luanda is dependent on solving the problem of the more than 1,500 teachers who received salaries without being teaching.

:

"Considering that there were 1531 teachers in Luanda who received their salaries in education, but who did not teach what was recommended to us, with all certainty, is that first we must solve the problem of those who are not teaching and earn as teachers, occupying these vacancies, and then we would have the opportunity to put in the new teachers", he explained.

The minister, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), also stressed that "new applications cannot be opened when there are people who are not working and who are earning salaries".

The statements were made at the end of a meeting with the governor of Luanda, Ana Paula de Carvalho. At the meeting, the state of the schools, the lack of staff, the public tender for admission to education, the distribution of manuals, the vaccination of children and also hygiene and biosecurity were discussed.

According to a note made available on Facebook by the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL), Luísa Grilo informed that the capital has the largest student population and, therefore, "is part of the Executive's priorities, referring, for example, to the case of private schools who teach Health courses outside the law", having also mentioned that "the degradation of schools, throughout the country, is also a priority of the Ministry of Education".

The head of the Education portfolio also acknowledged that Luanda needs at least 16,000 teachers. However, according to "the budget quotas of the Ministry of Finance, this year only 250 will be able to enter".

Regarding the public tender for access and entry into the sector, Luísa Grilo said it is "normal for many candidates to be left out, even if they have had good grades".

"We will prioritize those with the best grades, because there are only 250 spots available as announced," she added.

Narciso Benedito, director of the Provincial Education Office, also quoted in the GPL note, indicated that the 250 available places "are divided into two categories, namely sixth grade and thirteenth grade".
