CAN: Senegal beats Egypt and becomes African champion for the first time

Senegal was crowned this Sunday for the first time African football champion, beating Egypt, coached by Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, by 4-2 on penalties, after void in the final of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2021.

In Yaoundé, after the 0-0 draw in regulation and extra time, Abdelmonem, who hit the Senegalese goal post, and Lasheen, who allowed Mendy to save, missed two penalties for the Egyptians, while Sadio Mané converted the penalty decisive, after goalkeeper Gabasky still saved Bouna Sarr's shot.

The Senegalese team succeeded Algeria in history by imposing itself on the Egyptians, who have won the competition record, with seven, in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010.

Senegal, which had the best record of being in the finals in 2002 and 2019, became the 14th country to win the CAN.
