IURD Angola is registering missionaries and promoting reconciliation between members

The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) Angola is registering bishops and pastors, aiming to control how many there are and promote reconciliation between members after the rupture between the Angolan and Brazilian wings, the official told Lusa.

:

According to Bishop Valente Bezerra Luís, elected president of the Board of Directors of the UCKG after the break with Brazil and the division of the church in 2019, the process has taken place since the 0th of this month and will last for 15 days.

The bishop said that, taking into account that the end of the judgment of the IURD case taking place in Luanda is approaching, the opening of closed temples is expected as a result of the process, so it is necessary to update the members of the church.

"Seeing how the case is in court, in the next few days we will have the sentence, there is no need for us to continue to have two wings, the Brazilian and the Angolan", said the bishop, stressing that the main objective is to unite for a work in common.

"Even because we are servants and men of God. I believe that that conflict that took place should be in the past, what we must do is unite and be able to work, because, surely, after the sentence, the opening of churches will be ordered" , he stressed.

In this sense, Valente Bezerra Luís continued, a communiqué was issued for those pastors who, during the period of conflict, said they did not recognize this leadership, to attend the indicated places to carry out their registration.

"The objective is for us to have a list of all the pastors, even those who still say that they do not see themselves in our leadership, then, having this list, we must present it to INAR [National Institute for Religious Affairs] to be aware of the pastors who are part of the UCKG in Angola", he said.

According to the leader of the IURD Angola, pastors who are not on the aforementioned list for INAR are prohibited "at any time, either in the province or in the neighborhood where you are, to speak on behalf of the IURD, because you are not a pastor of the IURD" .

In addition to controlling the current number of pastors, Valente Bezerra Luís stressed that the main objective of this act is to "call the brothers" to unite and work.

An attempt at reconciliation took place on 22 January this year, with a meeting between the parties, informed the bishop.

"We also tried to arrange a meeting, which took place with Bishop Ferraz, Bishop Mendes and Bishop Felner Batalha on our side, and the conversation we had is that we have to reconcile the church, but our brothers insist that, in order to be able to to be part of our leadership, Bishop Edir Macedo has to be the spiritual leader, otherwise they do not agree. So, we will respect their decision, but they cannot speak for others, they spoke for them", he advanced.

According to Valente Bezerra Luís, Bishop Alberto Segunda did not attend the meeting, who delegated Bishop António Miguel Ferraz in his place, reiterating that pastors and bishops who are interested in being part of his leadership are welcome.

"Unfortunately, he did not show up and delegate to Bishop Ferraz", he lamented, adding that anyone who does not respond to the call cannot consider himself a pastor of the UCKG "because it is more than clear that here in Angola there is only one leadership".

In the order of service, it is underlined that all bishops and pastors of the UCKG Angola must update their pastoral register for the purpose of issuing the respective credential of minister of worship in effective service of the ecclesiastical mission of the UCKG throughout the country.

"At the end of the aforementioned period, disciplinary measures will be applied to all non-compliers, which may culminate in the respective compulsory separation of the pastoral clergy from the IURD Angola", reads the announcement.

In November 2019, a group of more than 300 Angolan pastors from the UCKG signed a manifesto in which they renounced joining the church, created in Brazil by Bishop Edir Macedo, with the Brazilian leadership, leading to the separation of the religious organization.

In the manifesto, the Brazilian leadership was accused of acts of racism, tax evasion, mandatory vasectomy procedure.

Following the mutual accusations, the Angolan justice system opened a case and ordered the closure of the temples, accusing bishops and pastors of crimes of criminal association, tax fraud, illegal exploitation of capital, with the trial of this case taking place in Luanda since the 18th. November 2021.

In 2020, INAR legitimized Bishop Valente Bezerra Luís as the representative of the UCKG in Angola and in February 2021, he was elected in the general assembly leader of the UCKG Angola, putting an end to the reform commission.

This direction is considered illegitimate by the direction of Bishop Alberto Segunda, elected in May 2021 as the new spiritual leader and general priest of the UCKG in Angola, replacing the Brazilian bishop Honorilton Gonçalves, who is on trial, with co-defendants António Miguel Ferraz. , vice president, and pastors Belo Kifua Miguel (Angolan) and Fernandes Henriques Teixeira (Brazilian).
They are accused, among others, of crimes of criminal association and money laundering.
