Without giving dates for the end of the airport certification process, Nataniel Domingos, president of the Executive Airport Management Commission, who was speaking Monday at the "Forum of the Angolan Aviation Industry - Aviation Sector in the World and Local Context", explained that so far a total of 19 airports have been rehabilitated by the government. This rehabilitation will make it possible to link all the provincial capitals by air, if necessary.
However, the official said, cited by Jornal de Angola, that for these objectives to be achieved some tasks are still missing: updating the customs and tax control services, the navigation services as well as the x-ray identification of cargo and passengers, among others.
On the occasion, Nataniel Domingos also revealed that in 2019, the year before the pandemic, 3.5 million passengers and 33,000 tons of cargo were moved in the country. Numbers, which according to the responsible, demonstrate the potential of Angola's transport.
The forum also referred to the process of updating airport infrastructures. This procedure will ensure that the country becomes a logistics platform, just like Egypt, South Africa and Kenya.
To adapt to these challenges, the current 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, in the capital, should be the target of improvements allowing the increase of the runway capacity and the movement of passengers and cargo.
