Angolan Josefa Sacko is fighting for re-election to the post of Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment, writes Angop.
If elected for a second term, Josefa Sacko will have as her main function the promotion of the implementation of the AU Institutional Reform Agenda.
The other two Angolans will compete for a seat on the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and the African Union Council on Corruption.
The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, composed of 11 experts, monitors the implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, which reviews documents and reports submitted by States, evaluates complaints and conducts questionnaires.
The election of new commissioners will take place at the 34th Ordinary Session of the AU Conference, which is taking place this weekend.
This Wednesday, February 3, the 38th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU began, in which Teté António, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated by videoconference.
This meeting served to prepare the agenda for the conference that will take place next Saturday and Sunday and deal with the election of new commissioners. The 38th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, which will take place later this Thursday, will also assess reports on the AU's response to the covid-19 pandemic in Africa, among other documents.
