The holder of the Health portfolio admitted that the amount allocated exceeded expectations, noting the increase as a sign of confidence. According to the minister, initially 52 million dollars were going to be made available, but the amount rose to about 82 million.
"It is a sign of confidence towards Angolans in the implementation of projects aimed at reducing the diseases mentioned above," said Silvia Lutucuta, cited by Angop.
The last Global Fund financing was allocated at the national level, however, the minister explained that this time the money will be applied only in some provinces. Silvia Lutucuta made known that the money will be used to fight malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in the provinces of Benguela and Kwanza Sul.
The money will help to improve the treatment and diagnosis, thus allowing the prevention and control of these types of diseases, she said.
The governor revealed that the operational plan is still being negotiated, but should be concluded by May and, as of July will be implemented in Benguela and Kwanza Sul until 2024.
He also indicated that the Global Fund is a strategic partner that contributes with more than six million dollars that are used in laboratories, testing, among others.
"They will also contribute with rapid antigenic testing. There is a forecast of, in the near future, acquiring biosafety material," she added.
