AfreximBank provides 1.3 million dollars to Angola

The African Export and Import Bank (AfreximBank) will provide about 1.3 billion dollars to Angola, to be invested in various projects. The amount will be made available throughout this year, said the president of AfreximBank, Benedict Oramah, who met Wednesday with the President, João Lourenço, in Luanda.

"A billion dollars will be made available to implement different projects linked to the Energy and Water sector, and other credit to support national banks," said a statement published on the government website.

At the meeting, according to the statement, "specific and priority issues for the country were discussed, including the project to supply water to the city of Luanda, budgeted at around 900 million dollars, and the Lobito Railway Corridor project, budgeted at around US$3 billion.

Issues related to the railroad connection that may exist between Luanda and Cuito and the Luanda-Benguela railroad were also addressed.

The president of AfreximBank also revealed that the head of state talked about the concession projects for the refinery and the port of Lobito as well as the construction of these infrastructures in the near future.

"Another subject discussed between the parties was the vaccine against covid-19, since Afreximbank was mandated by the African Union to buy 270 million doses," the note indicates, adding that the country will receive a quantity of these vaccines, which is why the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta was present at the meeting.

Benedict Oramah went to the meeting accompanied by a delegation composed of businessmen, some of them linked to Angola, as is the case of "Ahmed El Sewedy, president of a company that operates in several sectors and whose investments in the country are currently budgeted at about half a billion dollars".

AfreximBank was established in 1993. The pan-African trade finance institution is based in Cairo, Egypt.
