The idea is to take four athletes of both sexes to Japan - where the Olympic Games will be held - to represent the country in swimming and athletics.
Speaking to Angop, António Monteiro "Bambino", secretary general of the Angolan Olympic Committee, said that part of the 380 million kwanzas allocated for the competition should have been handed over to the AOC last year. Complaining about the lack of funds, he said that last year each airline ticket to Japan cost 700,000 kwanzas and that currently the price is one million and 800,000 kwanzas.
However, tickets are not the only problem for the AOC. The responsible mentioned that the delay in the allocation of the money has made it difficult to buy the necessary equipment and reminded that in the 2016 Olympic Games, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the money was allocated two days after the competition started: "In Rio de Janeiro we arrived six days earlier at the Olympic Village, with the athletes using different equipment, it was shameful and we passed an image of disorganization that is not the AOC".
So far, the women's handball, sailing, swimming and athletics teams have been selected for the Olympic Games.
