1º de Agosto and Petro de Luanda leave the African champions without victories

1.º de Agosto and Petro de Luanda, already out of the quarter-finals, ended this Saturday the participation in the group stage of the League of African Champion Clubs in football, with draws in games of the sixth round.

Four-time champion, 1.º de Agosto drew 0-0 against Zamalek do Egito, in a game that took place at the 11 de Novembro stadium, in Luanda, for the last round of group A, adding his fourth point in six games played.

The Augustines, who in the previous edition of the African champions reached the semi-finals, added two defeats, four draws and did not feel the taste of victory at this stage.

At the end of the game, the coach of 1º de Agosto, Dragan Jovic, regretted the opportunities created that were not realized, while the coach of Zamalek, Patrice Calteron, considered that the game "was difficult" and congratulated his team for passing to the next stage.

In this group, the RDCongo TP Mazembe, with 14 points, are qualified for the quarterfinals, after beating Zesco United of Zambia by 3-1, and Zamalek of Egypt, with nine points.

Also, for the sixth and final round of group C, Petro de Luanda, runner-up, drew 2-2 in Algeria, against the USM, totaling four points, also the result of four draws and two defeats.

Mamelodi Sandows of South Africa, with 14 points and guaranteed presence for the second phase, beat Wydad de Casablanca by 1-0, Moroccan team, which, despite the defeat, is also qualified for the quarter-finals, with nine points.

The Tunisian Esperance of Tunisia is the current two-time champion of the African Champion Clubs League in football.
