MPLA rejects proposal for repatriation of Angolan citizens in China

The MPLA parliamentary bench is said to have rejected an opposition proposal calling for the repatriation of Angolan citizens in China.

:

Refusing the proposal - which asked the Government to organize the repatriation of citizens who are in the country affected by the coronavirus and want to return to Angola - the National Assembly approved only a resolution of solidarity with Angolans in China, exclusively with votes from the MPLA.

According to VOA, UNITA endorsed the call by CASA-CE, which suggested adding to the document the imperative need for the Government to 'send for the Angolans who are in China.

“This is very serious, is the money we received from negotiating with China more important than life? If the other countries are going to get yours, why not?”, asked the UNITA deputy, quoted by VOA.

The parliamentary leader of CASA-CE, where the proposal came from, said that Angolans in China have expressed a desire to return to the country, and their continuity in China poses dangers to the health of Angolan citizens. "We defend its immediate evacuation but the MPLA bench does not understand it that way", criticized Alexandre Sebastião André.

On the other hand, one of the MPLA parliamentary deputies, Manuel da Cruz Neto, stated that the decision is up to the Government, and not to Parliament: "We cannot tell the Executive what to do, we know that the Government will do what it has to do".
